MOTOR CITY MASHER NEWS and JUNE MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT!

June Meeting Notice! Special deal on whiskey barrels! Invite to play pinball!

HELLO MASHERS! First off, sorry for the delay!

If you are going to attend the National Homebrewers Conference in San Diego, we wish you safe travels, great beers and good times! Also, be prepared to report on what you saw, did and tasted while there at the July meeting. (And don’t forget it is always good etiquette to bring back stuff for your homebrew club president… I wear a 3XL… don’t judge!) Also, pictures/video or it didn’t happen!

Our next meeting will be on Friday, June 5th at 7PM at the Adventures in Homebrewing Call Center in Taylor, MI. We will be discussing business of course (like the Michigan Homebrew Festival, the Michigan Beer Cup, apparel, glasses, by-laws, and upcoming competitions among other topics), but we will also be sampling BJCP (2008) Style 14 – India Pale Ales (IPAs). If you have something that you would like to discuss, please email me so I can add it to the meeting notes, which you can see ahead of time HERE. Hope to see you all there!

From Chris Styles (representing AIH):
Hey everyone. We have a line on some 15 Gallon whiskey barrels, #3 char. They would run $175. Thoughts? We want to do this in house and not have to ship, if we can help it. Asking the clubs first to gauge interest. Thanks.
Chris would like to get the order in on Monday, June 1st, so email him directly or call the store to get your order in.

We were invited by friends at the Sons of Liberty Home Brew Club (courtesy of Jeff Burchart aka Booch, the President of SOLHBC) to their June 2015 meeting. It will be on Monday, June 1st from 7:30pm-10:30pm. What makes this special (besides the invite) is the location. They are having their meeting at Vintage Flipper World, also referred to as the Ann Arbor Pinball Museum. This is an extensive personal collection of pinball machines numbering around 250, dating back to the 1950’s, and set up for free play for guests. Normally, this facility is not open to non-paying persons. For their June meeting, Clay, the owner, is opening his doors and his games to the Son’s of Liberty Homebrew Club, and members of other homebrew clubs they are inviting (like us).
For information on the museum such as address, history and machines on display, check out the website at www.vfwpinball.com .
There is no cost for this event but attendees are encouraged to bring homebrew/craft brew and food to share.
As Booch told me, “We have visited this collection the past four years, and I must say it is certainly the most well attended meeting of the year. The effort that has gone into restoring and caring for these machines is evident in their appearance and their play. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to view and play these awesome games.”
This sounds like a complete blast, and Jennifer and I are planning on attending. I hope you can make it as well! (NOTE: Please EMAIL ME if you will be attending and what you’re bringing so I have an idea of who’ll be there! Thanks!)

Don’t forget to check us out at our website and on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.

As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Cheers!
