Date: Friday, June 2nd
Time: 7:00 PM
Location: Downey Brewing (13121 Prospect St., Dearborn)
This month, we'll be hosting a fun, people's choice-style cider competition. The rules are simple: any homebrewed cider made with supermarket-style apple juice is eligible. Feel free to doctor up your cider in whatever way you see fit (fruit, spice, hops, blends, etc) as long as the base only contains supermarket juice. The winner will receive the admiration of your fellow Mashers and a 1-year MCM club membership!
We're going to give Diacetyl another shot. Mike is planning to be at the meeting and will lead a discussion about our favorite popcorny off-flavor. We'll overview how to identify it, what causes it, and how you can control it in your beer.
We look forward to seeing you there!
The Michigan Beer Cup is this Saturday and Sunday, June 3-4 at the Rochester Mills Production Facility in Auburn Hills. There is still a need for judges and stewards. If you’re able to lend a hand on either day please register by clicking here. .
We're excited to be participating in the first-ever Downey Brewing Cup along with the FORD Brewing Club! We'll be brewing our version of a dry-hopped Saison on the Downey system on June 10th. Brewing starts around 11 am and should be wrapped up before dinner time. Please join if you can and lend a hand in helping us craft a winning recipe!
The beer will be released later this summer and the club that sells the most pints will take home $1 for every pint sold! Get your friends and family ready! More details at the meeting.
A number of club members are planning to make the trip out to San Diego later this month for the AHA’s Homebrew Con. This year, we’ve made a commemorative t-shirt for those going and anyone interested in a cool California-themed shirt.
Please click here to order your shirt by Saturday, June 3rd.
*Let me know if you’d prefer a different color or style of shirt. We can modify the form to include additional options if there’s interest.
For our final-round NHC brewers, we will be coordinating a group ship out to San Diego for your entries. MCM will cover your shipping costs if you decided to join the group shipment! We can take your entries at the meeting or we can coordinate a meetup shortly after the meeting for those interested. Please let me know if you’d like to join the group ship.
This month's featured style is International Pale Lager so bring your version to receive a point to the MCM HBOTY. For those competing in the quarterly competition, please bring your NEIPA entries for submission. Additionally, MCM members are eligible for bonus points and their first entry refunded for competing in both the Michigan Beer Cup and the Michigan State Fair with MCM listed as your homebrew club. Please let us know if you submitted by filling out the point request form here.
MCM members earn HBOTY points by submitting the monthly style, entering the quarterly comps, placing at the quarterly comps, and submitting to 4 Michigan-based homebrew competitions. Please check the HBOTY page of the website for the current standings, upcoming styles, and to request HBOTY points.
It’s your last chance to donate to our friend Keith Manchester’s (bowling outing attendee) 24-hour brew-a-thon fundraiser. This year, Keith and his "Usual Suspects Brew Crew" are raising funds for the Humane Society of Macomb. Please donate if you're able and let Keith know that you're a Masher when you do--the top clubs will earn a prize packet with some pretty awesome items!
