February 2023 Updates

February Meeting
We’re back at Downey this Friday, February 3rd at 7 pm. Competitions are in full swing as we plan for the Celebrity Deathmash and the National Homebrew Competition. There are a slew of other comps across the country that are currently open or will be opening soon. With this in mind, we’re going to discuss some tips and tricks on how to get your beers packaged and ready for comps.
February kicks off the 2023 MCM Homebrewer of the year competition so bring any style that’s eligible to submit to Deathmash to earn your point. We’ve also got a quick recipe overview for next month’s style–Irish Extra Stout (15C).

Celebrity Deathmash
Deathmash is just over a month away! We’re very eager to bring the coveted mash paddle back to the club so we need as many Mashers to submit as possible. Styles are limited so check them out and get brewing! If you’re new to competitions or would like some help brewing/packaging your beer let one of the officers know and we will do our best to help you out.

National Homebrew Competition

There’s still a little time left to register for the largest homebrew competition in the world! The National Homebrew Competition may close entry registration as early as  Tuesday, Jan. 31st (although I’ve seen them keep it open quite a bit longer depending on the entry count).

We encourage you to submit your best stuff and select the Indianapolis location for first-round judging. Our own Kevin O’Brien has volunteered to drive all the MCM entries to Indy a few days before they’re due. Just plan to bring entries to the March meeting or the Deathmash judging. Thanks, Kevin!

Judges are also needed to help out in Indy so please consider making the trip down to judge on March 24th/25th.

MCM Food Bank Volunteering
Fish and Loaves Community Food Pantry - FreeFood.org
The Mashers are planning to volunteer at the Fish & Loaves Community Food Pantry in Taylor on Feb. 25th, 2023 at 8:30 AM. We should be finished around noon and are planning to grab some lunch and a beer afterward at BJs Restaurant and Brewhouse.

If you’re not on Facebook, send us an email to RSVP and we will add you to the list. We’re looking to fill 17 slots so feel free to share this invitation with your family and friends as well!
Membership Dues

If you haven’t done so already, please submit your 2023 MCM membership dues ASAP. Cash is accepted at meetings/events or you can also use our Venmo link to pay online.

Homebrewer of the Year

The results are in and the winner of the 2022 MCM Homebrewer of the Year is Dan Kukuk! We’re looking forward to another year of competition with some of the best brewers out there. Check out the monthly styles and get brewing for your chance to win in 2023!
